Statement
Kate Curry uses a vigorous brushstroke and bold expressive color to create her large landscapes. An Eden-like uncontrolled natural world is her starting point. Memory and experience guide her to shape the wildness with the tools of civilization; poles, fences, and other structures. These are paradoxical images about freedom as well as containment. Using paint and brush, she explores the tension between man and nature. Curry Studied art at American University in Washington, DC. Her dynamic paintings were exhibited widely in the Washington, DC area. They were also seen in Russia as part of the Washington, DC/Moscow, Russia Art Exchange . "Red Clover" was installed in the lobby of the US Fish and Wildlife National Headquarters in Arlington, VA. Other large works are in the US Chancellery in La Paz, Bolivia, corporate offices, and private residences on east and west coasts. Curry's paintings may be seen at Foxhall Gallery in Washington, DC, SFMOMA Artist's Gallery in San Francisco, and in her San Jose studio. |
